For as long as I can remember, I’ve been tuning into the vibes around me. Being psychic and an empath is just part of who I am. Guiding people whether on a spiritual journey or with general advice feels like second nature. Before finding my spiritual path, it was sometimes hard to work out if thoughts were my own or mixed up between me and those close to me. It can still be quite funny at times when I blurt out something quite random that they were thinking.

Then there’s my own cosmic shopping experience. My mum is like my own psychic Amazon delivery service—she just knows when I want or need something, and boom, the next day, there’s my package on the doorstep. At work they trot through with the latest brown packaging and announce another ‘mum special’.

Pandemic lockdown gave me time to explore creative activities including establishing RaraKoala millinery. I also discovered an online psychic group and found myself cracking jokes with people’s departed loved ones in photos. It was wild! That’s when I had the lightbulb moment that I am a medium! And my mentor, with a twinkle in his eye, was like, “Yes, I think you might be”.

How I Embraced Spirits and Spirituality

The psychic, the medium and the empath

I was already part way there by knowing that I was psychic, but now I knew I was a medium and soon had it confirmed that I was a strong empath. Things were starting to make sense. Like the thoughts that appeared in my head from nowhere that were random or out of character and the feeling of being overwhelmed in places like supermarkets.

I used to dread people asking me to go out for a walk. NO I DON’T! It might be good for your mental health, but it’s not for mine. Other people could chatter away while passing random strangers. I couldn’t understand it.

To me a lot of those random strangers oozed out pain or worry. How can’t you see it? The way they hold themselves, the feeling they give you in your stomach and chest, the story is in their eyes. I would want to hug everyone.

Then I would feel so guilty. Instead of enjoying the stroll by the river I’d be feeling their pain and my guilt for not hugging them. For not making their day better. It wouldn’t leave.

Of course it wasn’t all bad. As I’ve already said, the Amazon gifts were great, knowing who’s going to call or needs a call, and when someone wants a takeaway but daren’t say is all kind of handy.

Finding out you're a medium: And what about the medium bit?

Other medium’s had told me several times that I am a medium, but I didn’t really want that though. It wasn’t a spiritual journey or even skinny path that I was keen on finding to be honest with you.

There was one time that I remember seeing a spirit, just briefly, he was leaning up against the doorframe watching me scrubbing the carpets of my new house.

After that first day it did feel as though someone was about, but that’s what you get for living on your own and watch X-Files at night right? So just in case I made a pact that at night time they could have free roam of everywhere except my bedroom and the bathroom.

I really should include the landing and stairs in that. Even today I’ll bolt from my room to the bathroom and back like Sonic.

But, before and after that encounter with the photos I’ve never allowed silence around me. The tv and lights have always been on day and night. Who wants to wake up to something standing over you or sitting on the end of your bed? What a way to start finding out you’re a medium, No Thanks!

What about when a spirit answers you back? Well, the anticipation of it is much worse than when it actually happens. It’s quite magical in reality. In fact, laughing at the things that the photos were saying isn’t the whole story.

While I was chuckling away with a photo a guy jumped out of my wardrobe to tell me something important, and the photo got a bit miffed that their time to talk had been interrupted.

It wasn’t even scary; I just asked the wardrobe guy to sit on the bed until it was his turn and then we could get to the bottom of what he was trying to tell me.

You just need to set boundaries and intentions very firmly, so that there are no surprises! With the development that came next and the discovery of where my strengths lie, it’s a must more than a need.

Exploring spirituality: My personal spiritual journey

Spirit discovery and lockdown learning

I started a three-month Advanced Mediumship course, it wasn’t supposed to be that long but there was so much time to explore, learn, debate, practice and try new things.

It inspired me to keep going and learn about oracle cards, tarot, platform readings, trance healing, past life regression. I also added remote viewing to my list of certifications. It is a blend of science and endless visual opportunities. It’s so freeing of the mind.

My spiritual journey of development unfolded through webinars, podcasts, and live YouTube sessions and I was constantly learning. Conducting readings online rather than in person has become the norm for many spirit workers and healers, so if you’re wondering whether the online experience matches that of in-person encounters, rest assured, it does!

Sometimes it’s even better, with fewer distractions and the comfort of being in familiar surroundings. Ultimately, it’s all about tapping into energy.

Each new discovery blows my mind all over again. It’s like peeling back layers of reality and finding a whole new universe underneath.
