How psychics and mediums channel
I’ve started with Clairvoyance as it’s the most common name or reference when talking about a psychic or medium. You may have even got to this page by searching “find a clairvoyant near me”.
So, how do clairvoyants communicate with spirit? Well it’s important to note that not all medium’s are clairvoyant in fact we may have just one or a few of the clairs. It is possible to gain another clair through commitment to practicing exercises to develop the ability. I’ve put a star by those clairs that I have.
Clairvoyance: Seeing *
Being Clairvoyant: This can be seeing spirit, remote viewing, seeing images of the past, present and future, vivid dreams and premonitions. It can be like watching a TV screen, or as if you’re actually there.
Even seeing signs, angel numbers, and symbols are classed as Clairvoyance.
Symbols for me are like random images that appear in my mind’s eye and that’s because it’s a quicker and more effective way for a spirit to communicate information and feelings rather than in actual sentences. For example if I see a beach ball I know that it represents a holiday rather than somebody loves beach balls.
Clairsentience: Feeling *
Being Clairsentient: Feeling a spirit’s love or excitement at being in contact with you. It can also appear as feeling how they passed or if they are sorry for something. It can be dread about something that’s coming or even manifest as cold temperatures. I have often felt like I’m being tapped or yanked by my clothing. I also feel if someone is close in the physical realm or in spirit.
Clairaudience: Hearing *
This is hard to explain. When spirit is talking it’s not from the outer ear but rather the medium hears it in their mind – the inner ear.
It can also be a song that plays on the radio that is profoundly relevant to a thought, situation or person.
Mediums also get a ringing in the ear. That is usually the spirit wanting my attention quickly, or to give a positive clarification to something that I’m thinking.
Clairgustance: Taste
This is rare. The medium experiences a specific taste in the mouth when connecting with spirit. I do not yet have Clairgustance.
Clairalience: Smell
The medium experiences a hint of something connected with the spirit, for instance, perfume. This helps with validation or recognition of who the medium is are communicating with, or who is trying to get attention.
Clairtangency: Touch *
This is my favourite exercise and it is known as psychometry.. I love challenges with objects, or with photos concealed in envelopes. I don’t always need to touch them though. The exercise can can be done from online photos of objects and people.
Claircognizance: Knowing *
This is a strong knowing without any evidence or proof. It can be disregarded because saying “I just know” isn’t always enough for everyone. For as long as I can remember I have had the knowing and it’s strong. It makes guidance come very naturally and easily to me.
Clairsentient: A feeling of someone's energy *
Clairsentient or Clairempathy is similar to an empath but is a step further. Put simply it’s like empathy but with the knowing. Empaths can feel the emotions of people but not know the cause. Clairempaths know why.
I am a huge empath and I feel it gives me a deeper understanding of people, animals and objects. It makes me want to heal every being I come into contact with.

How Do Psychics and Mediums Work during readings?
To get an understanding of psychic and medium practices further you can look at the many methods and tools that we use to get information, delve deeper or simply speed things up. The following lists and descriptions are few examples of methods and tools that I use.

Scrying
This is another example of how psychics and mediums connect with energy, and this one is very visual. Scrying is a form of divination or fortune-telling that involves gazing into a reflective surface, such as a crystal ball, water, or a mirror, to perceive visions or insights. Messages can also be seen in clouds, oil & water, wax in after, flames and smoke.
I’m still honing my skills in this mystical art. It’s a bit like mastering magic eye pictures.
Trance Healing: How Do Psychics and Mediums Work in Different Settings?
You wouldn’t call this a reading, more of a session but when looking at another area that psychics and mediums work, many people have healing abilities. There’s angel healing, Reiki and many more practices.
Trance healing is a method that I use to channel healing energy from the spirit world to help alleviate physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments.
During a trance healing session, the medium enters a deep state of meditation or trance to connect with spirit guides or healing energies. The energy is then directed towards the person in need of healing, promoting balance and well-being.
Just the tip
There are countless methods, tools and skills beyond those I’ve mentioned. There’s a rich tapestry of practices. I haven’t even touched on self care, abundance and some of the far out or contentious topics and misunderstood methods, but it gives you an idea of how psychic readings work and how mediums communicate with spirit.
