You may wonder if there’s a difference between a mind reader and a psychic. While the terms are often used interchangeably, there are unique qualities that set these two practices apart.

The Hypothetical Question: Who's Reading Whose Thoughts?
Is Mind Reading a
Psychic Ability?
If two psychics are reading each other’s minds, whose thoughts are they actually reading? Would you just come up blank or go around in circles?
In reality, this scenario is a bit of a nonsense. Our psychic abilities in working with energy would kick in and we’d be start reading that rather than direct thoughts. Whereas mind readers, as such, use cues and tricks to read minds for entertainment purposes.
However, let’s get thinking hypothetically about the hypothetical question. It could be that the stronger thinker, or the stronger psychic picks up something. Or our minds could wander during the exercise to a rogue thought unless we exercise strict discipline, right?
The Nature of
Psychic Reading
As a psychic, I often pick up on thoughts unintentionally, especially when someone projects them with strong emotions. For instance, when someone feels frustrated or desperately wants to be heard during a meeting, I can I know what they are going to or want to say.
A fun and practical exercise to develop psychic abilities involves working with a partner. Have them draw 12 different items on a piece of paper, keeping the images hidden from your view.
Once you’re ready, focus and tune in psychically to draw what you believe is on their paper. Then, compare your drawings to see how accurately you interpreted the images.
Depending on drawing skills, some results might surprise you. For example, a flower might come across as a lollipop or a fried egg, and a stamp could resemble someone in bed with a blanket or a UK post box might look like a rocket.
While the interpretations might not always be exact, they often lead to surprises or at least some laughs.
A Personal Anecdote: Seeing through your eyes
Early in my development journey, in a class to improve psychic abilities, there was just one fellow student who struggled to receive messages or spirit for me. We don’t know why this would happen, but despite her best efforts, she often ended up describing what I was seeing at that immediate moment. This was all happening online, which made the experience even more intriguing.
We’d both be ready, thinking she was bringing through visions that would give evidence of a loved one or times in my past, so until we noticed this pattern, it took a while to click on to the fact that this was a consistent thing.
One session went like this: she mentioned seeing blue flowers and a lot of yellow, a lollipop, and a teddy bear. It wasn’t until she described a hat I was working on in detail that I realised she was seeing things directly through my eyes IN REALTIME.

I had been focusing on my yellow curtains with blue flowers while trying to clear my mind.
The lollipop she mentioned was likely my microphone or phone stand. The detailed description of my hat, which she had no prior knowledge of, was the most astonishing revelation. She accurately described the colours and shapes, confirming that she was seeing what I was looking at during our session.
This experience underscored the importance of clearing our minds and the fascinating ways our psychic abilities can manifest. It shows that we don’t all go straight in knowing how to direct our abilities.
Can psychics see through your eyes? It looks like it! Especially if there is a strong connection.
Answering the Question: Who's Reading Who?
So while it was a joke question that I’d seen on a TikTok video, it allowed me to explain a teeny bit more on what the process is like and the importance of being calm and having a quiet mind while having a reading.
We’ve also discovered that the definitions split mind reading into trickery and psychic into spiritual activity. That’s the main difference between a mind reader and a psychic. But to tie it all in, I would have to say that it’s actually not a joke. In my experience the most connected psychics actually do go round in circles sharing thoughts and vision.
I’ve also found the opportunity to share a fun exercise with you and it’s hopefully had your mind doing a workout today.
You're Thoughts are Safe: Unless you unleash them
Don’t let any of this worry you though, for me personally, I’m not walking around trying to read you. I have no desire to do so and have to intentionally open up to see things. Otherwise, it’s violating to both of us, it’s draining, and I also get the compulsion to go around hugging people that need a hug and that tends not to be acceptable while you’re walking down the street or in meetings.
As for other people, they really shouldn’t. It breaks universal law and just isn’t ethical. If someone is doing that and you don’t like it then ask them to stop, put a barrier up in your mind to them, ask your guides to stop them and/or don’t be around them. They’re your thoughts and feelings at the end of the day.
What do you think?
Is mind reading a psychic ability?
I am interested in whether you can hear thoughts or if it’s purely a feeling of energy? Is mind reading a trick, or is the magician in denial about their abilities, therefore creating a mix of trickery and psychic?
